Kitbashing a jetbike part 1: What in Throne's name...

It's going to be a counts-as jetbike sky hunter.

I'm not exactly sure what I've begun.  I was supposed to be working on the 3rd command like I said I would, but I've officially run out of WoC bodies to work from (next week will be a different story, they are in the mail as I write) and for some reason I don't feel like painting right now-- shame, shame!
Also, I bought the WhFB island of blood gryphon from ebay ever-so-long ago and it's been calling to me to be used, so here we are-- though not exactly as I anticipated.

I don't even know what the creature is meant to be.  The closest thing I found was a Hippalectryon but that's not it...  Whatever it is, I like it very much.

Being a jetbike it needed a heavy bolter-- Two boltguns were considered, but there was nowhere to fit them, except around the girth.  Now where to put the ammunition... I thought the rider could carry it on his back, perhaps?

  1. Looks pretty darn cool! The bolters could go underneath the wings, with some pipes going to them, like an old plane! Maybe you could give me a hand too: http://wargamer-hq.weebly.com/ . It would be great if you were to look around and help us!

  2. The 30K era heavy bolters from Forge World are shoulder mounted, just like the old 2nd Ed. models used to be. I think that would be your best bet; I wouldn't try to push the mount too much further. It looks great now but strapping a heavy bolter to it may look too forced. Then again, you seem to be able to do that better than anyone else I know :-)

    1. I've been trying to build a heresy-era heavy bolter for some time now, sadly with little success. I admit this does look rather pretentious, but I didn't really want the rider carrying it; 600+ pounds of astartes is already quite a weight on the spine (albeit gene-hanced) and he'd have no hands left for reins/pistol and chainsword.

  3. Loui here. Hey the ammo belt could feed from maybe his wings somehow? Maybe something akin to a Thunder hawk guns set up? His feed can run through his backpack, or just out of a side mounted ammunition cannister.

    1. I've got the rider wearing the ammunition with a feed running under the wing now. Thanks for the idea, though.
