Back again at last

I have been unfaithful to the blog, I'm sorry.  If you've been following me on G+ you'd see I haven't been entirely idle but still that's inexcusable.  I haven't been wanting to paint much because I haven't bought any new brushes recently, which is a terrible rut to get into; I did the other day and finished two more Astartes, so that's a thing I did.
As far as the IK is concerned, very slow. Almost no progress at all, but it's there in the background as an ongoing thing, which I wanted it for.  I finished the avenger gatling cannon arm; the barrels proved so heavy I was compelled to drive a brass rod straight through the weapon to brace it.

I'm also in the process of making a thunderstrike chainfist.  Yeah.  I haven't got it to a point where I can show it here yet but just so you know, it's a thing.

So here we are, two members more of Thollr 2nd Flokk Sigmundr.

First is the flokk colour sergeant, who counts as the combat squad leader.

The standard is magnetized for ease of painting/storage
D'you remember the 3rd ed Warhammer box-art by John Blanche?  This one of the Black Templars.

There's a white heavy in there too
Somewhere in the background is a red standard bearer, can you see him?  I liked this idea very much and, being Imperial Fist successors as the Black Templars are, I decided to incorporate red into the colour sergeant's livery.

Second is the musician, former Deathwatch Black Shield, Brother Anthem.  Being a fairly important character --in my opinion-- I wanted to put a bit more time into painting him; also I used more drybrushing and typhus corrosion to reflect his dark(er) backstory.

In case your wondering, it is meant to be a guitar

I chose a BA death company helm for its bulkier outline; I didn't realise they looked like headphones until later.  That's okay though.

The oversized guard of vambrace was a tomb king's standard.
Detail on the silver arm

And that's that I suppose, for now anyway.  I've begun painting an assault weapon specialist and have many more half-finished space marines awaiting my attention.

Assembling/converting IK #2 part 1: Off to a slow start...

Well, we knew it wasn't going to be easy.  The cutting out of the armour panels is complete, the mesh is in place and I'm just waiting for the greenstuff to dry so I can begin trimming.  That's how I hold it on, by-the-by; greenstuff, super-glue and wearying heaven sore with my prayers.
Storm's teeth, hurricane fencing is so stressful, even in plastic!  I don't think I'll ever be buying a FW knight (foreshadowing?)  Someone said once that it was a thing, that kitbashers would dream up the most ludicrous of conversions and then set about to make them happen.

The front plate on the Icarus autocannon was probably the most difficult of all; I ended up actually cutting it in half in an attempt to prevent my nasty, fat fingers snapping it.  Extending the barrels was the next (obvious) step--

--along with the avenger gatling cannon.  Avenger?  Is that it's name?  Forgotten.
My elder brother tells me that if you carry around huge weapons, blades, swords or anything, then you're seen as lacking in other areas namely those of, of manliness-- oh well!  story of my life-- I'm a dhampir, and I'm happy with it.

...Er-hm, moving on, I was not going to pose the legs at first, but I've finally buckled and got out with the scrollsaw.  I think I'll be making a graveyard for the knight to be walking over, that'd be nice.  I'm looking at other people's freeblades for ideas; I rather like the awkward and disturbing poise of Atgos the Silent.

In other new I'm using the Khorne exalted champion to make a new body for my chapter master-- not that I ever finished him, but with the whole canon vs gaming scale thing it wouldn't have made sense to make him so small.  My only regret is now I have five pairs of sternguard legs I will never use...

And 2nd flokk musician is currently in this Halfway-Through-Being-Painted state.  What you see behind him is my desk at the moment.  I've got several other (secret) projects that I'm not going to relate yet; oh, here's a fun game for you.  Looking back at the photos of the last few posts, can you guess what my secret project is?

Aborted Sanctity

Something wicked this way comes...

Well now.  I really Will Not Get Anything Finished At All.  My my, what am I thinking, buying this?

... Oh whatever!
It's been on my mind to get one, ever since I finished my first IK.  It was nice having a fairly approachable WiP to continually return to and do a little bit here and there, and when I finished the White Rose, my crowded workbench felt oddly empty... So there we are.  Also, getting a Warden kit means next time I can get a paladin and make another variant.

First impressions on the instruction book; slightly negative, I'm sorry to say.. One is made to feel very foolish with the instructions.  They tell  spoonfeed one where one should glue, for one.  And the painting instruction on the back-!  I know I've only been with GW since 6th ed, but I'm not a child and this isn't meant to be a child's hobby.  At least, that's how I feel.

Oh, I feel like a child
So you shade leadbelcher with nuln oil? Ooooh nooo, I thought you used typhus corrosion...
But that's just the instructions.  The kit is AMAZING to look upon, I know it'll be a joy to assemble.

So this will be the next big project.  Aborted Sanctity, Knight Warden under house Silenzi.  I scribbled down a few notes concerning the work involved, notes being;

I don't know what I want yet.  I like the icarus autocannon, but I'll be making the missile pod also.

So that's that.  Knight warden, next big project.  More updates on their eventual way; please watch this space, do!

Oh, last thing; I will be making an interior with a pilot.  I'll be using this classic IG psyker.

First member of 2nd flokk Sigmundr is finished

A few days ago, it hit me that I really haven't painted anything since finishing the White Rose; that was a good while ago now and I was afraid I had forgotten how to hold a brush.  Well, not quite but you know how it is, you miss a day in the gym and you feel like the most obesist and unfittest person-- at least that's how I feel.

NEVER MIND where was I... I've hit another emotional low, and initially did not want to do anything hobby-wise because I didn't feel like it... And yet I knew I had to push myself to get something done, or I would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever return to painting.  Besides, we know wonderful things can happen when we choose to embrace the Darkness descends upon us!
And you wish for proof in this?
 Firstly, a few WiPs I'm working on;

Non-FW suit of MkIII

A librarian

Yesterday I undercoated several members of a Flokk including a few halflet-serfs; so I put on Slashgore and over several hours produced this; my first (technically speaking) Sagodjur Fjorlag canon piece, brother Niði, Þollr 2nd flokk Sigmundr.

For reasons beyond my control-- as in my pvc bottle being glued shut, oh wretched thing!-- I could not base him properly for the photos, but I will get there I'm sure.  I am especially happy with the way the cloake turned out, and the Chain of Zeal looks Very Old Indeed.

And that's that, for now at least.  I'm still depressed but oh well.  Next time I'll have a few more Astartes finished; I really need to get back into painting... Another Big Project looms on the horizon distant; I won't tell you yet, it may fall through... But if it happens, I shall be prepared.

Wretched thing~!

Bits and pieces

I am not ashamed in the state of my desk

I am not a tidy kitbasher.  Not At All.  I think it might have something to do with my artistic talent; more than likely I'm just lazy... I haven't posted in a while because I haven't finished anything worth showing, for I have a billion things going at once and I'm saving up to go to Wellington and a PS4 so sadly I can't buy much new.  Mind you, I did get The Evil Within for about $30 today, that was something I couldn't walk past.
But anyway, I'll show you a couple things I've got scattered around the desk.

Firstly after much debate I finally opened the terminator librarian.  I'm not very fond of the kit but it has some pieces I will be using.  Like the book, that's already been cut up and used.

Here's a slightly modified meltagun with an incense burner for a muzzle; also a WIP "Iron" backpack, made from a RT era one, a CSM one and the fan off a cultist.

I bought Wulfrik the Wanderer to make a Canon Piece 7th captain.  After a great deal of trimming, I've got nowhere with THAT project.

Here's a pretty thing.  I don't often use lascannons, but when I do...

Six guys out of seven and NONE are finished

And finally, this is where I'm up to with my Canon Piece Astartes.  With having to use terminator pauldrons and much greenstuff and every head needs trimming and no arms will ever fit, I can't help but think I might have bitten off more than I could chew.
Oh well, they're going to look nice when they're finished.  I just wish I could get them to Golden Demon...

And that's that.  A few bits and pieces around my untidy desk.  Was it interesting?  And would you be interested in seeing more posts like this, while I have little finished?  Let me know, won't you?
